“My loss is the land’s gain.” These are the words of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, spoken when she accompanied His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) on royal visits to model farms in 1997.

On October 25th, a group of students from the MBA program, Executive Level 31/2, along with faculty and staff, visited the Maeb Uang Natural Farming Center in Chonburi Province. This center was founded by Dr. Wiwat Salayakamthorn, or "Ajarn Yak," who is dedicated to expanding the knowledge of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Sufficiency Economy philosophy. Drawing on his experience as a royal attendant, he has transformed these ideas into practical projects, achieving success and expanding the center into a model school for the community, leading to sustainable self-reliance.

One of His Majesty’s key principles is the concept of “The more you give, the more you receive.” Loss is gain; the loss we incur is the sacrifice and dedication we make for the community, and the gain that the community receives is the profit. The more sacrifices made, the stronger the foundation. This concept is similar to the royal remarks of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, mentioned above.

For the morning activities, the students observed a moment of silence to mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. Following this, they listened to a lecture by Ms. Salisa Salayakamthorn, Director of the Maeb Uang Natural Farming Center, about the center's origins and learned about various beneficial plant species. They also toured the center's model areas, including a lush forest teeming with vegetation, natural water sources, rice fields, and a medicinal herb garden essential for survival.

In the afternoon, the students participated in a workshop on making multipurpose cleaning solution and organic mouthwash using natural materials. This served as an example of handmade products that can be further developed into community products, generating additional income. This was a valuable experience beyond the classroom and a real-world case study that students can use to develop their ethical management skills. We have a responsibility to society and the community for a sustainable future.
